Demperio Leads Day Three in NYS Senior Open Championship

Endicott, NY – Syracuse bowler Dave Demperio shot 279 and 790 to lead day three of the 46th Annual New York State Senior Open Championship at Ideal Bowling Center in Endicott. He teamed up with Chuck Trudell, also from Syracuse, to take the lead in Class A Doubles ages 70-74 with total of 1479 with handicap.

This annual event is for bowlers 50 years of age or older as of 10/12/24 who are members of the New York State USBC. Bowlers compete in doubles, singles and a 6-game combine event in six different age groups. Winners of each division are determined by total pin fall plus handicap.

In doubles the divisions are determined by the average age of the two bowlers. For example. if bowler A is 50 years old and bowler B is 60 years old, the average age is 55 which places the team in Class D 55-59.

The leaders in Doubles are Marilyn Avondet from Endwell and Randy Snyder from Apalachin with a score of 1296 in the Super Seniors Division ages 75; Demperio and Trudell with a score of 1479 in Class A 70-74; Cindy Lee and JoAnn Peworchik, both from Endicott with a score of 1438 in Class B ages 65-69; Gary Tenebra from Amherst and Jeffrey Leach from Cheektowaga with a score of 1572 in Class C ages 60-64;  Scott Oliver from Endwell and Daniel Martone from Endicott with a score of 1421 in Class D ages 55-59 and June Hillman and Paul Burdic both from Cherry Creek with a score of 1439.

In the Singles the leaders are Trudell 728 in Super Seniors; Leonard Dobucki from Depew with a score of 769 in Class A; Peworchik with a score of 719 in Class B; Marijo Calderone from North Babylon with a score of 789 in Class C; John Spingler from Clay with a score of 774 in Class D and Joseph Muller from Oneonta with a score of 819 in Class E.

The tournament also includes an optional six-game combine event with a separate prize fund. This combines the scores from your first doubles and first singles event. The leaders in the Combine are Swenson with a score 1385 in the Super Seniors; Douglas Volbrecht from Freeville with a score of 1420 in Class A; Tenebra with a score of 1538 in Class B; Michael Carno from Baldwinsville with a score of 1547 in Class C; Spingler with a score of 1540 in Class D and J. Muller with a score of 1558 in Class E.

In addition to the prize money, the bowlers in the Combine Division receive a paid entry into the 2025 USBC Senior Championship on August 6-8, 2025 at City View Lanes in Fort Worth, Texas.

The tournament concludes tomorrow, October 20 with squads at 10:00, 1:00 and 4:00. Walk-ons are permitted, there is room in all three squads. Please come to the center at least 45 minutes prior to the start time if you plan on walking-on.
