8th New York State Senior Masters Championship

Pat Brick of Buffalo wins his second NYS Senior Masters Title by knocking off Gary Reynolds of Groton 433-418 at Owego Bowl on Saturday, November 2, 2024. He also won the 1999 NYS Masters making him one of three bowlers with Masters and Senior Masters Title.

This tournament is open to anyone who bowls in New York State was is 50 years or older as of 11/2/24. Bowlers rolls four games across eight lanes during Qualifying.  The top 16 then advance to match play round. Seeds 1-4 receive a two-round bye and seeds 5-8 receive a one-round bye in Match Play.

59 bowlers descended on Owego Bowl to compete in the annual event, and competed on a custom designed pattern from Kegel distance was 45 feet, ration 5.22:1 and volume 27.9 ml of oil.

Brick was the overall leader of after Qualifying rolling games of 222, 211, 289 and 268 for a total of 990. Other bowlers advancing to match play were, Bill Hasiotis from Rochester 973 (279), James Delello from Bainbridge 973 (270) and Norman Biaulski 948, all receiving a two-round bye. Ray Cyr from New Hartford 922, Gary Reynolds from Groton 901, Kurt Brockman from Penn Yan 886, and Paul Hamilton from Sidney 864, all receiving a one-round bye. Tie-breakers for position are determined by highest game bowled.

The final eight bowlers began match play in round one. Franklin Warner from Lyons 861 (279); Bill Delawaski from Williston Park 861 (248), Mike Domicolo from Oswego 860, Matt Kallner from Castleton 858, Scoot Dingman from West Henrietta 853 (251), John Sponable from Endwell 853 (237); Merle Foster from Rome 849 and Steve O’Dell from Oakfield 845. Tie-breakers for position are determined by highest game bowled.

In Round One of Match Play O’Dell Defeated Warner 425-324; Sponable knocked off Domicolo 385-381; Foster rolled by Delawski 443-361 and Kallner ousted Dingman 446-373. Round two saw Cyr defeated O’Dell 444-435; Sponable knocked off Hamilton 421-353; Reynolds rolled by Foster 465-386 and Kallner rolled by Brockman 458-368.

Brick hit the lanes in Round three and knocked off Cyr 494-454, Sponable continued his hot hand knocking off Bialuski 475-456. Reynolds was able to hold on and defeat Hasiotis 419-410 and in another close match Delello squeaked by Kallner 440-438.

In the semi-final round Brick rolled games of 257, 247 for a total of 504 to knock off Sponable 244, 217 for a total 461. In the other semi-final match Reynolds rolled 214 both games to knock off Delello who shot 202 and 180.

This is set up the finals between Brick and Reynold. Brick started out strong with the front seven to shot a 234 in game one while Reynolds rolled a 181. In game two Brick was able to hold off a strong game by Reynolds rolling a 199 for a two-game total of 433. Reynolds 237 gave him a two-game total of 418.
