43rd NYS Women’s Senior Singles Championships

The 43rd Annual New York State Women’s Championships saw 228 bowlers from around the state head to Jefferson Valley Lanes in Northern Westchester County for the two-day event. Bowlers competed in six different age divisions, looking to earn a state title.

To eligible for this event bowler must be 50 year or older as of August 9, 2024. There are six different age divisions, the bowlers roll three games on day one and then come back the next day for three more games. Winners are determined by total pin fall plus handicap.

Esther Vann-Jones from the Westchester County USBC shot 698 on Saturday and 690 on Sunday for a total of 1388 to claim first place in the Class AA (ages 75 and up), which was the largest division. Second Place was Doretha Lanier also from Westchester County with a score 1354, Third Place went to Carol Humphrey from the Fulton County Regional USBC with a score of 1352.

The Champion in Class A (ages 70-74) was Merrandie Walker from the Hudson Valley USBC rolled 719 on Saturday 652 on Sunday for a total of 1371. Joann Taggart from Westchester County USBC rolled a 1332 good for second place and Susan Sorrell from Malone USBC was third with a score of 1331.

Karen Carpinelli from Long Island USBC shot 705 on Saturday and 721 on Sunday for a total of 1456 to earn her first title in Class B (ages 65-69). Second place was Regna Peart of New York City USBC with score of 1371 and Kathleen Barry from Schoharie County USBC finished third with a score of 1355.

In Class C (ages 60-64) Corning USBC bowler Margaret Randall rolled 720 on Friday and 695 on Saturday for a total of total of 1415 to capture the crown. Second place went to Kim Cleveland of Schoharie County USBC with a score of 1337 and third place was Sherry Sherman from Hudson Valley USBC with a score of 1336.

J’Anna Padmore of the Hudson Valley USBC was the champion in Class D (ages 55-59), she rolled 705 on Saturday and 656 on Sunday for a total of 1361. Fellow Hudson Valley bowler Elizabeth Bodnar rolled a 1339 for second place and Long Island USBC bowler Frances Gotterbarn was third with score of 1332.

The final Division was Class E (ages 50-54), Donna Lynn Rorick from Fulton County Regional USBC shooting a score of 726 on Saturday and 611 on Sunday for a total of 1337 to capture the crown. In second place was Melissa Bosley from Northern Adirondack USBC with a score of 1324 and third place was Michelle Phillips of Mid-Hudson USBC with a score of 1297.

In addition to first place prize money, the Champions in each class earned a paid entry into the 2025 USBC Senior Open Championship which will be held August 5-8, 2025, at Cityview Lanes in Fort Worth, Texas.
