Daniel Vick Wins Third NYS Masters Title
Daniel Vick from Pittsford lead the way in the 9:00 AM squad at the New York State Masters Championship rolling games of 216, 204, 238, 234 and 222 for a five-game total of 1114 to earn a spot in match play. Vick used this momentum to capture his third Masters Title.
Ripic’s Carousel Lanes in Binghamton played host to the annual event for the top bowlers in the New York State which drew 117 bowlers. The Qualifying round was five games across 10 lanes, using a staggered cross schedule. We had a custom designed sport shot from Kegel.
Squad one began at 9:00 AM with 51 bowlers and 12 advancing to Match Play. Vick was the leader in this squad followed by: Adam Jozwiak from Akron 1103; Jeremy Milito from Patchogue 1096; Daniel Goldston from Troy 1073; Alex Cavagnaro from Mamaroneck 1059; Jason Briggs from Glens Falls 1052; Michael Guernsey from Liverpool 1050; Brady Jennings from Middle Grove 1045; Dennis Surmaczewicz from Buffalo 1039; Jacob Eby from Dingmans Ferry 1037; Brian LeClair from Delmar 1035 and Troy McClure from Marion 1028.
“We had another decent turnout this year,” Association Manager Angelo Corradino said. “Ripics was a great host for this event and helps to draw bowlers.”
The second squad started at 2:00 and was much larger, with 66 bowlers hitting the lanes, advancing 14 bowlers to Match Play. This squad was higher scoring with the leader Kyle Perillo from Nesconset leading the way with games of 247, 242, 210, 237 and 248 for five-game total of 1184. Other bowler advancing to Match Play were Ryan Galli from Johnosn City 1170, Sam Capizzi from Rochester 1125; Steve Wagoner from Schenectady 1116; John Monaghan from Syracuse 1108; Dave Jecko from Whitesboro 1100; Zachary Bogholtz from Nassau 1080; Matt Fazzone from Schenectady 1079; Ryan Graywacz from Canastota 1073; Anthony Scaccia from Voorheesville 1066; Kyle Haines from Altamont 1062 and Armando Jay Villa from Whitestone 1057.
“The Master is always a huge draw; we had bowlers from Buffalo to Long Island this year. They seem to come out regardless of the location,” Corradino added.
Match play consisted of two-game single elimination matches with total pin fall determining the winner. The bowlers were seeded based on total pin fall from the qualifying round with top six receiving a bye in round one, tie-breaker rules to determine ranking was the highest game bowled. There were three ties for position.
In round one of match play, Carney defeated Jennings 473-326; Villa knocked off Graywacz 497-446; C LeClair rolled past McClure 421-362; Milito ousted Surmaczewicz 455-331; Cavagnaro over Goldston 493-460; Bogholtz squeaked by Guernsey 406-405; Fazzone knocked off Briggs 467-338; B LeClair defeated Jozwiak 415-400; Eby ousted Jecko 407-379, and Haines rolled past Scaccia 434-399. Those eliminated earned $180.
The top six were back on the lanes for round two. The winners from the round of 16 were, Villa over Capizzi 426-387; Cavagnaro squeaked by Galli 408-407; C LeClair ousted Milito 506-406; Monaghan defeated Carney 403-350; Fazzone knocked off Wagoner 447-405; Haines defeated Perillo 500-375; B LeClair over Eby 466-402 and Vick knocked off Bogholtz 504-469. Those eliminated earned $280.
In round three Vick defeated Fazzone 486-468; Cavagnaro ousted C Clair 458-391; Villa knocked off Monaghan 445-395 and B LeClair rolled past Haines 427-403. Those eliminated earned $375.
Vick continued his momentum in the semi-finals with games of 226 and 269 knocking off B LeClair who rolled games of 212 and 219. In the other match, Cavagnaro with games of 190 and 236 defeated Villa rolling games of 154 and 191. Those eliminated earned $500.
This set-up a rematch of the 2022 finals. The match was back on a pair with fresh oil in game one Vick shot 191 and Cavagnaro 179. Vick opened game two with the front six on his way to a 247. Cavagnaro shot 225. Vick earned $2,000 and a paid entry into the 2026 USBC Masters, Cavagnaro earned $1,000.
Next year's New York State Masters will be held at Pat Tarsio Lanes in Newburgh on March 7, 2026. Applications and online registration will be available soon.
