SEPT. 2, 2014 – The New York State USBC has crowned champions from seven different local associations, according to official results of the 34th NYS Women's Senior Singles Championships which were released today.
The tournament took place on Aug. 15-17, 22-24 at Rapids Bowling Center in Niagara Falls.
Age classifications winners (six-game totals with handicap) are as follows:
Class AA (75-and-over) – Sandy Stoffle, Syracuse USBC WBA, 1,344.
Class A (70-74) – Joanne Bergh, Johnstown USBC WBA, 1,406.
Class B (65-69) – Karen Sleeter, Schenectady-Scotia USBC WBA, 1,390.
Class C (60-64) – Susan Helfman, Westchester County USBC, 1,358; Dorice Bradley, New York City USBC, 1,358.
Class D (55-59) – Melissa Bunn, Long Island USBC, 1,293.
Class E (50-54) – Kathleen Willy, Greater Buffalo USBC, 1,415.
Helfman and Bradley tied for first in Class C and are co-champions. However, per tournament rules, Helfman will be given the first chance to represent New York State at the 2015 USBC Senior Championships next August in Green Bay, Wisconsin, since she had a higher three-game series with handicap than Bradley, 713 to 692.
Special thanks to directors of the Niagara Falls USBC WBA and Tonawandas USBC for their great assistance and to the management and staff of Rapids Bowling Center for hosting a successful tournament. The 2015 event is scheduled for Valley Bowling Center in Waverly.
