Another highlight of the tournament was the 300 game and 817 series rolled on the final day of competition by Greg Mintz of Staten Island (in photo at right), a retired U.S. Marine and current ROTC instructor.
Mintz, 53, rolled 269-300-248--817 to place first in the Class E Singles. The smooth-stroking right-hander is no stranger to honor scores as he has more than 40 perfect games and 20 800 sets to his credit. He came into the tournament with a 236 average.
This year marked the first time for the 50-54 age group, thanks to a change in policy by the United States Bowling Congress. Of the 87 Doubles teams that entered the tournament, 21 were in the 50-54 division.
The 35th NYS Open Senior Championships will take place Oct. 19-20, 26-27, 2013, at Jamestown Bowling Company in Jamestown.
